This guide provides an overview over the required timecode cables for common cameras and audio recording devices. Both sections are sorted by brand/manufacturer in an alphabetical manner.

Whenever a device offers a Trilevel sync (Genlock) input in addition to timecode, the required cable will be listed as well. Depending on the use-case, Genlock may be optional or mandatory. In order to make use of Trilevel sync, a Lockit (ACN-CL) or Lockit+ is required.

The Blackmagic PYXIS has a shared BNC connector for timecode and Trilevel Sync. Therefore only one signal can be used at a time.

The Micro Studio Camera can be supplied with Genlock via a SYNC-OUT cable if the Blackmagic Expansion cable is installed.

The Panavision Millenium DXL and the DXL2 feature an integrated ACN-Module. Therefore they can be set via ACN and no additional Lockit is required. In case you still need to connect an external timecode device, you can refer to the guide below.

DXL-M

Red cameras offer greatly varying connectivity, depending on the modules installed. Therefore you need to double-check your camera model as well as the expansion modules that might be installed. The guides below (hopefully) list any combinations possible. Use Ctrl+F to search for your model in case you can't find it.

DSMC ( Scarlet M-X, Scarlet Dragon 6K, Epic M-X, Epic Dragon 6K) /w PRO I/O Module

KOMODO-X w/ PRO I/O Module, V-RAPTOR and V-RAPTOR [X] w/ Expander Blade

V-RAPTOR XL, V-RAPTOR XL [X]

The V-RAPTOR XL and V-RAPTOR XL [X] feature an integrated ACN-Module. Therefore they can be set via ACN and no additional Lockit is required. In case you still need to connect an external timecode device, you can refer to the guide below.

Make sure to update the firmware on your Sony camera to the latest version to enable the Multiport LTC input.

The Sony FS7 and FS7 II require the XDCA-FS7 extension for native timecode and Genlock support. Otherwise audio timecode can be recorded through a TC-OUT cable.

FX6

E2-F6 Pro

The Z Cam E2-F6 Pro has a shared BNC connector for timecode and Trilevel Sync. Therefore only one signal can be used at a time.

LTC input requires Z Cam BNC adapter.

✅ Cameras w/o native Timecode Support

These cables cover most cameras that do not support LTC input natively. Smaller DSLR cameras often feature a 3.5mm jack for audio input, while larger cinema cameras can have full-size XLR connectors. The camera manual can be a great help for identifying the audio input and choosing the correct cable.

Usually it is required to trim the LTC output level on your Lockit down to mic level to prevent clipping at the audio input.

DSLR cameras with 3.5mm audio input (like Blackmagic BMPCC, Canon EOS 5D, Lumix GH5 II and older, older Sony Alpha 7 models, Nikon cameras etc.)

Larger cameras with XLR audio input (like Sony FS7 w/o extension, older Blackmagic Studio models etc.)
