In this guide we’ll show how to make a Sound Devices MixPre-10T accept external timecode and Genlock.
Turn on all your Lockit devices, choose one of them to be the master clock – then press-and-hold the green button to broadcast timecode and frame rate through ACN and you are set.
Make sure all devices and Lockits run on the same frame rate.
- On the Lockit, press green and red simultaneously to enter menu, then and navigate to “Project Rate”. The NanoLockit frame rate can be adjusted in the LockitToolbox.
- On the MixPre, no further adjustments are required. It will automatically detect and adapt to the external frame rate once it is set up.
How to make the MixPre-10T accept external Timecode:
- Enter Menu
- Go to second menu page
- Enter "Timecode"
- For "TC Mode", select "BNC In"
For the MixPre-10T you need an LTC-OUT cable.
Connect it to the TC In BNC connector.
Now the MixPre-10 accepts the external timecode source. The timecode clock in the home screen should show the incoming LTC.
Alternatively you can select "Aux In 1" as TC Mode and use a TC-IO-35RA cable to feed LTC into the MixPre. But you will lose the ability to genlock to the timecode. Therefore using the BNC Input is the recommended way.
How to set up Genlock:
- The MixPre-10T can genlock to the external LTC signal present on the BNC Input. No further cables are required.
- Enable external Genlock on the MixPre-10T:
- Enter Menu
- Go to second menu page
- Enter "Timecode"
- For "Sync Ref", select "BNC In"
Once the MixPre-10T has recognized the external timecode, the Input LEDs will stop flashing to indicate that the recorder is properly genlocked.
