In this guide we’ll show how to make a Sound Devices 8-Series recorder accept external timecode and Genlock.
Turn on all your Lockit devices, choose one of them to be the master clock – then press-and-hold the green button to broadcast timecode and frame rate through ACN and you are set.
Make sure all devices and Lockits run on the same frame rate.
- On the Lockit, press green and red simultaneously to enter menu, then and navigate to “Project Rate”
- On the 8-Series:
- Enter Menu
- Go to “10. Timecode/Sync”
- Go to "2. Frame Rate"
- Select your frame rate
How to make the 8-Series accept external Timecode:
- Enter Menu
- Go to “10. Timecode/Sync"
- Select "1. Timecode Mode"
- Choose "Ext TC"
For the 8-Series you need a TC-IO cable.
Connect it to the 5-pin LTC/WClk/GPIO connector.
Now the 8-Series accepts the external timecode source. The timecode clock in the home screen should show the incoming LTC.
How to set up Genlock:
- The 8-Series can genlock to the external LTC signal. No further cables are required.
- Enable external Genlock on the 8-Series:
- Enter Menu
- Go to “10. Timecode/Sync”
- Go to "10. Sync Reference"
- Choose "LTC-In"
Once the 8-Series has recognized the external timecode, the Input LEDs will stop flashing and the display will show an "LTC" sync indicator at the bottom of the screen.
