In this guide we’ll show how to use timecode from a NanoLockit with a Sony Alpha 7s.
Since the camera does not support timecode natively, you need to record the LTC to an audio track and then extract the timecode information via software later.
Turn on all your Lockit devices, choose one of them to be the Master Clock – then press-and-hold the green button to broadcast timecode and framerate through ACN and you are set.
Make sure all cameras and Lockits run on the same frame rate.
- On the Lockit, press green and red simultaneously to enter menu, then and navigate to “Project Rate”
- On the Camera:
- Enter Menu
- Select "Record Setting"
- Select the frame rate you are shooting in.
For this camera you need an TC-IO-35RA Timecode cable.
Connect it to the TRS microphone input of the camera.
You now need to adjust the audio level to avoid distortion of the TLC signal. Otherwise the audio timecode cannot be properly identified later. Start by reducing the audio level in your camera's Audio menu to approximately 50%.
Reduce the output level on your NanoLockit further by holding the green button and tapping the red button. You can bring the level back up by holding the red button and tapping the green button.
Your Alpha 7S is now ready to record external timecode.
