Using a QP5 cable kit on an old QXS or QX boom pole

While there still is a QX cable kit with straight XLR outlet on the bottom available, some boom operators prefer the angled outlet of the new QP5 cable kit and would like to use it on their QXS or QX as well.
This is possible, but some soldering is required because the 3/8" tip on the older Quickpole lines is not removable. In oder to install a QP5 cable on a QXS or QX, the XLR connector needs to be removed first and then soldered back on the cable once it has been guided through the tip.
A special add-on item (p/n A14188) is available which includes a rubber grommet for the cable outlet in the tip and a new shrink tube for the XLR strain relief. This item should be ordered together with the cable kit when it is supposed to be installed on a QXS or QX. A14188.jpg

 

Be aware that contrary to the QX and QXS series, the QP4 and QS can't be outfitted with an internal coiled cable. This is because the inner diameter of the top segment is slightly smaller than on the new QP5 Slim and cannot hold the coiled cable. Straight cable kits are still available for the QP4.
